Plan to arrive into Avalon by 10am if possible. Stroll Crescent Drive. Take a walk onto the Green Pleasure PIer. Walk over to the Catalina Casino. If time permits sign up for a tour of the museum. Enjoy a cocktail and laying out on Descanso Beach.
If time permits, sign up for either a sea tour in a submersible submarine or glass bottom boat or land tour of Catalina's interior. Tickets for both can be found at the Tour Plaza. Be staure to enjoy a lunch at one of the restaurants or bars along Crescent Drive or along the beach or pier. Take a hike into Catalinas interior and visit the Wrigley Botanical Gardens. Explore all of Avalons side streets off of Crescent Drive, many of which ascend on steep hills giving visitors spectacular views of all of Avalon and the Pacific Ocean. Check out the brand new ecolines tour and zip and descend 600 feet from the hills above Avalon and land on Descanso beach.
On evening of Day 1, consider taking one of Catalina's Ghost tours. If
only had taken one of the tours on Day 1 (i.e. sea or land tour) plan
to take the other tour on the second day. In addition depending on the
land tour plan on taking the second land tour (i.e. if only had taken
bus up to airport check out safari like tour that goes deep into the
Catalina interior) Hike up to the Zane Grey hotel and the house at Mt.
Ada. For those interested in snorkeling there are many snorkeling
opportunities at Lover's Cove, the Green Pleasure Pier or Descanso
Beach. Be sure to check out shopping at the Metropole square. Explore
the many spa and massage opportunities available in Avalon.
For those looking adventure a parasailing trip might provide some
excitment. If offered check to see if boat tours offering sightings of
whales, dolphins and Catalina's coast are available. THey depart just
south of the the main boat terminal but may only be offered on select
days. During the summer safari buses depart for the Two Harbors on the
other side of the island. Rent a boat and do your own guided tour of
Avalon Bay and the coast lines of Catalina Island.
