Avalon, CA
The Hotel St. Lauren is a bright pink victorian style hotel located in the center of Avalon at the intersections of Beacon Street and Metropole. The hote is at the top of a hill and its front lobby affords beautiful views of all of Avalon, Avalon Bay and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
The Hotel St. Lauren is one of the most visibly noticable hotels on Catalina Island. Built in 1984, many locals have nicknamed the hotel as the Pepto Bismo for its distinctive pink color. Upon entering the Hotel St. Lauren guests will feel loike they are more in the living room of a victorian house than a hotel. The lobby includes a quaint check in desk, a seating area and a traditional wooden stairwell to the upper floors. There is also elevator service in the hotel to take guests to upper floors. The hotel is home to 42 rooms and a few rooms include private patios and whirlpools.
The rooms of the Hotel St. Lauren tend to be on the small side and the hotel, even though built in the 1980s gives an older, bed and breakfast feel. There is a rooftop patio where guests can relax and take in sweeping views of all of Catalina Island. The hotel is near the center of Avalon and is only steps away from a Von's grocery store, the Avalon post office and the main shopping districts. The hotel is less than a ten minute walk to the main docks that guests arrive in from the mainland and another ten to twenty minute walk into the Catalina Island interior.
The Hotel St. Lauren is most convienent to those guests looking to stay in Avalon and explore Catalina Island via the many tour services available. Its not a good option for those looking to travel and camp within the island or to visit the Two Harbors.
