  • Catalina Yacht club, a building an organization that goes back decades to a time when the Yacht club was considered a prestigous fraternity type organiztion with strict requirements for acceptance. Today the Catalina Yacht club juts into Avalon Bay next to the Catalina Casino.

    Outside the Catalina post office a line of golf carts are parked while their respective owners run in to check the mail, run errands and socialize on the latest happenings on the island with fellow residents.

    Another shopping area of Avalon where Metropole Ave runs off of Crescent Ave. In this area are shops, spas and a hotel. The walk from this area of Avalon to other areas of the town.

    One of the main shopping areas in Avalon. This shot is Where Sumner Avenue and Crescent Drive meet forming the Wrigley Plaza. It is here that visitors can take in spectacular views of Avalon Bay, enjoy ice cream from St. Olaffs or take in the boutique shops that line this area.

    The Catalina Golf Course, located off of Sumner Ave and west of Avalon, lies in the beginning of the Catalina Interior. Only 9 holes, this golf course was used as a training spot for the Chicago Cubs in the 1920s and 1930s.

    Wrigley Botanical Garden located at the top of Avalon Canyon Road in the heart of the Catalina Interior. About a 20 minute walk from Avalon, the Wrigley Botanical Garden charges a $5.00 admission and has a wide variety of plants on display that are indigenious to Catalina Island.

    Departing daily from the Tour Plaza, this converted 1950s style city bus takes visitors deep into the Catalina Interior along steep dirt roads where on one side cliffs drop away to the ocean below giving passengers breath taking views of Avalon, the island and the interior as well as observations of the Catalina wildlife.

    It is said that hundreds of buffalo were shipped to Catalina Island in the 1920s for the filming of Western movies. However no record of any movie from that time period has ever been discovered. However the buffalo population has remained. When touring the Catalina Interior, visitors are guaranteed a sighting of buffalo. Today the Catalina Conservacy keeps the population at 250.

    Catalina Island has deep traditions and folk lore that go back to the days when Native American Indians occupied the island. One of the more contemporary tales is that of multiple ghost sightings throughout the island. Those visitors looking to take part and learn more can ride along on this ghost tour that departs several times a week.
