Robertson Blvd

Robertson Blvd is an upscale shopping strip located on the West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills borders. Beginning at the intersection of Melrose and Robertson, the main shopping area extends all the way down to Wilshire Blvd. Robertson aside from all the window front merchandise is a scene on to itself with the constant cruising of celebrities, the paparazzi who follow them and the Ivy Restaurant nestled Robertson Blvdin the heart of this excitement of glam, shopping and buzz.

The stores of Robertson Blvd fall into two categories. Apparel/accessories and and home improvement. For the apparel side almost all the stores (a few exceptions) are small upscale boutiques. Each of these stores has their own back stories on how they were founded. Some have been on Robertson for decades, while others just recently popped up. Some have established routes in Europe, NYC and Miami while others boast of ownership by famed designers who launched the Robertson location as their first foray into retail Below we have listed the boutiques of Robertson and their web addresses. To click each store and read about their founding will give you an idea of how the store operates and the type of inventory they carry.

Most if not all these stores, unlike other shopping areas of LA, cater almost exclusively to the woman. Most of the apparel is geared to the upscale, fashionable woman looking for a high end look in both the social circuit and in the professional realm. The Ivy is popular with celebrities and those that follow online tabloid sites will recognize some of the names of the stores below as constantly being in celebrity news. Hungry? The famed celeb hangout Ivy is right in the middle of this shopping area along with the Newsroom Cafe across the street. Both boast clientele taking a dining break from the shopping of Robertson and the celebrity looking for a breather from running from the paps!

Robertson Blvd between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose:

Robertson Blvd begins at Santa Monica Blvd. This area of Robertson is the epicenter of LA"s Gay and Lesbian District. Both sides of Robertson Blvd just south of Santa Monica Blvd are full of gay clubs, restaurants and coffee houses. The most famous to the LGBT community is The Abbey located just south of Santa Monica Blvd on Robertson. The Abbey has a medieval theme and hosts and outdoor patio, over four unique bars, chandeliers and fire places. Across the street from the Abbey is Ultra Suede. Once home to Frank Sinatra back in the 1940s, this club is now home to the gay community for dancing, special events and themed club nights. The weekends on this stretch or Robertson are especially busy with the sidewalks heavy with crowds and the two lane street full of cars, limos and taxis.

Robertson Blvd betweeen Melrose and Beverly:

The next major street to intersect with Robertson and running parallel to Santa Monica Blvd is Melrose. On Robertson Blvd between Melrose and Beverly are a variety of home design stores with the exception of one. On the southwest corner of Melrose Ave and Robertson Blvd is John Varvatos. Known as an upscale men's clothing store the John Varvatos store on Robertson and Melrose is a single story retail space with gigantic store front windows that line both Robertson and Melrose. South of John Varvatos and before Beverly are about a dozen home design stores. They range from carpets, hardwood floors, upholsteries, windows, bathrooms fixtures, tiles and kitchen improvement. Many of the residents who live in Beverly Hills come to this stretch of Robertson for ideas on decorating and home design.

Passing over Beverly and before Wilshire Blvd is the most famous stretch of Robertson Blvd. This stretch of Robertson features all the boutique retailers that the major celebrities often shop at before heading anywhere else in Los Angeles. Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and more have all been regulars on this stretch of Robertson. The stores here cater mostly to women looking for upscale, hip and edgy attire for work and social engagements. Most of the stores are indepently owned and each have a long history. On a sunny day its not unusual to see hoards of paparazzi floating around this stretch of Robertson Blvd looking to get the next big money shot. The stores of Robertson Blvd include Reiss Mens and Women's Wear, True Religion, Curve, AG, Tori Burch, Intermix, Kitson, Vionnet Boutique, Naneite Lepore Boutique, Ted Baker, Lisa Kliner, Paige, Alice & Olivia, Anya Hindmarch, Wesc and Chanel Concept Store.

The Ivy

Perhaps the biggest scene in LA dining is the Ivy. Located on the west side of Robertson just south of Robertson, The Ivy can't be missed with its little white picket fence and outdoor patio with big white umbrellas to provide shade and waiters going to and from the tables to keep the customers happy. It is here that celebrities come to see and be scene. Often they intentionally sit out on the patio so that they are prime for the cameras of the paparazzi staged across the street. In recent years the Ivy has become chaotic as more and more celebrities have taken advantage of the prime location to be scene, often causing traffic jams on Robertson as paparazzi and fans clamor for pictures and autographs upon their exit. The food at the Ivy is OK, and is by no means anything to write home about for the amount of money charged., Their standard menu includes fried chicken, salads and enchiladas. Anyone visiting Los Angeles and walking Robertson Blvd will probably find the splurge worth it. Even if there are no celebrities, the LA scene of producers, agents, Beverly Hills wives and the wannabe set is still worth it.
