Like its Sunset Strip neighbor the Andaz, the Chateau Marmont is a world class establishment on the very end of the Sunset Strip known for glamour, excitement and star power. Dating back to its original construction in 1927, the hotel is modeled after the Chateau d'Amoise of the Loire Valley in France. Under the ownership of Hotels AB, run by celebrity hotelier Andrew Balazs, the Chateau Marmont sits prominently in the edge of a hill on the furthest eastern point of the Sunset Strip. Upon entering West Hollywood and the Sunset Strip when traveling west bound on Sunset Blvd from Hollywood, one cannot miss the elegant architecture the hotel exudes on the right hand side as it serves as a kind of gateway entrance to the strip.
The Chateau Marmont has a long standing history with celebrities and high profile people alike. Hollywood stories and legends live strong and loud here. It was at this hotel that James Dean jumped through a window to audition with Natalie Wood in "Rebel Without a Cause". Greta Garbo used the property as one of her seclusion points, never leaving her room for days on end. It is at the Chateau Marmont that James Belushi died of an accident drug overdose in 1982. Many other legends and tales around legendary names such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson abound with their connection to the hotel. In modern day the hotel continues to host today's modern celebrities and their high profile media events.
On the lower level of Chateau Marmont and with an entrance off of Sunset Blvd lies Bar Marmont. Dark, classy and with a very old Hollywood feel, the Bar Marmont is a great place to grab a cocktail and see through the dim lit room, who is who. You never know who might pop in the Bar Marmont, a very popular gathering amongst LA's entertainment elite, the bar is worth a check out when traveling down the Sunset Strip.
