Located on Franklin Avenue and a block north of the Hollywood's Walk of Fame is the Magic Castle Hotel. Next door to the Magic Castle, the hotel retains a touristy, yet boutique and clean feel. The hotel is over 50 years old and has 40 units, it completed a major renovation in 2004. The hotel prides itself on maintaining and intimate and comfortable feel-for example during the hot summer months, attendants roam the pool area wearing a white glove and hand out pop cycles every hour.
The Magic Castle Hotel is definitely more conducive to families and budged tourists than the business traveler.
In addition to the accommodations, the Magic Castle Hotel is affiliated with the Magic Castle Club that is right next door. The Magic Castle Club is set in a Victorian house on a hill that offers nightly magic shows, but only to those of the public that are members. For those staying at the Magic Castle Hotel, their stay include a membership where after a day of sightseeing you can enjoy the evening of magic shows, exploring hidden passage ways and lounging in old-victorian like lounges.
From a walking perspective the hotel is very convenient to the heart of the Hollywood and Highlands area. Less than a 10 minutes and you can be on the Walk of Stars, at the dozens of shops along Hollywood Blvd and the Hollywood and Highland Complex. It is from here that you can take one of many dozens of tour buses that will take you throughout the LA area from celebrity homes to the hottest spots the city has to offer. In addition, at the Hollywood and Highlands complex you can take the Metro line to either downtown LA or to Universal Studios.
If you plan on seeing the sights on your own beyond the Hollywood area, you will need a car when staying at this hotel. Both Beverly Hills and West Hollywood are convenient drives, under 20 minutes. In addition entrance to the 101 is right around the corner where you can get to Universal Studios and Downtown LA in under 10 minutes. However if you are planning a trip to the westside to the beaches, Venice, Santa Monica or Brentwood, the trip west came take up to 45 minutes on peak rush hour times.
Visitors not planning on renting a car will find the Magic Castle Hotel to be extremely convenient to most of the sites of Hollywood as well as the tour buses that leave throughout the day for points throughout LA. In addition the walk to LA's subway line at Hollywood and Highland that takes visitors nonstop to Universal Studios is less than five minutes. Visitors who plan on spending a lot of time at the beaches or in Santa Monica/Beverly Hills should consider renting a car.
