The Roosevelt is located right in the center of busy Hollywood. Located off of Hollywood Blvd, the hotel is just across the street from the Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese theater, Hollywood and Highlands complex, the Kodak theater and right next door to the El Capitan Theatre. The hotel itself is one of the most traditional and known properties in all of Los Angeles and boasts a sophisticated high class feel combined with the old Hollywood Charm that it is known for.
The hotel is built with a Spanish style architecture. On the outside you can easily see that the style dates back to the 1920s upon its original opening. However once entering the inside you will feel the rich, high class, contemporary atmosphere the hotel has come to embrace. Owned by the Thompson Hotel company (with properties all over the world) the Roosevelt was built in 1927. The hotel stands as one of Hollywood's most popular landmarks. It was the location for the first ever Academy Awards. The ceremony itself only lasted 15 minutes.
The list of stars who have stayed or visited the hotel is long. In the early days of Hollywood the Roosevelt was a popular meeting destination amongst the huge A-list celebrities of the time. It is here that Marilyn Monroe, Will Rogers, Cary Grant, Mary Pickford, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland just to name a few stayed. In addition, it is said that Shirley Temple as a little girl would practice tap dancing on the main staircase leading out of the lobby. It was out by the pool that Marylyn Monroe would pose for some of the first photos she would ever take for the press upon becoming famous.
After a major renovation in 2005 that was overseen by Dodd Mitchell, the hotel has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity on Hollywood's social scene, in particular with younger Hollywood stars and events. Today the roster of celebs who are seen at the hotel and its associate club, Teddy's include Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johanson, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie and Prince to name a few.
The rooms at the Roosevelt are modern, spacious and offer views of the Hollywood sign, all of LA to downtown as well as the immediate Hollywood vicinity. They maintain a modern new look combined with the roaring 1920s antique feel the hotel became famous under.
If you are planning on spending a lot of your time in the Hollywood area, the Roosevelt is a good choice. With easy walking access to all of the sights in Hollywood, including the tour guide buses that leave out front on Hollywood Blvd, the property is very convenient.
In addition, there is easy walking access to basic convenience stores. As the Hollywood and Highlands Center is the departure point for a variety of tour buses throughout LA as well as the subway to Universal Studios, the Roosevelt Hotel is probably one of the most convenient accommodations in the Hollywood area for those visiting for pleasure.
If your travels take you to a more westerly direction such as Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Santa Monica, you will need a car. Be advised during peak rush hour times, travel to these areas from this part of Hollywood can run up to an hour. On off peak times and weekends, it is only up to 20 minutes. If your travels take you into the San Fernando Valley, there is now a metro like, LA's new underground subway that leaves out of the Hollywood and Highlands center for the Studio City area of LA that is home to Universal Studios.
