The Standard Hotel located in the heart of the Sunset Strip encompasses everything that is loud, fun, excitement, glamour and LA! Part of the Standard Hotels chain that owns and operates properties in New York and Miami, the Standard Hotel on the Sunset Strip offers a very social environment with an active lobby, rooms with spectacular views of the city and a central pool where guests can participate or observe the activities from the comforts of their own rooms.
Upon entering the Standard Hotel the first thing you will notice is the glass encasing behind the front desk. Enclosed in this casing is usually a male or female model-or both! Sometimes appearing to be asleep, other times they read, listen to ear phones or appear to be in conversation, this odd yet eye catching fixture is a conversation piece unto itelf. Passing behind the front desk is the main lounge area, known as the Cactus Lounge and then the pool area-also known as Poolside. From here guests and visitors can relax with a cocktail and appetizers while taking in spectacular views of of LA. In the hot summertime the poolside comes alive with both locals and visitors mingling along and in the pool as an escape from the heat.
In addition to the Cactus Lounge and Poolside, the Standard Hotel of Hollywood offers several other dining venues. Located to the left of the lobby is the 24/7 Restaurant. Modeled after a family diner, the 24/7 Restaurant offers a variety of quick family style eats. This is a great place to hang out after a night out on the Sunset Strip, early morning breakfast or just a quick eat when on the run between sight seeing tours. Adjacent to 24/7 is the Purple Lounge. By far one of the coolest LA hangouts and always hopping with the hip LA crowd, the Purple Lounge is a dark and cozy atmosphere with an occasional fluorescent lighting, its the perfect spot to get a good cocktail and lay out on the many couches and enjoy the crowd. As the Purple Lounge is one of the most popular nightlife venues in LA, access maybe limited depending on the night of the week and the promoter presenting the event.
The hotel accommodates 139 rooms on 3 floors. Those rooms that face south will have views not only of the pool on the hotel property but also all of greater Los Angeles from downtown to LAX.
Note that if you are looking to get to Brentwood, Santa Monica or the westside during peak rush hours, the drive maybe as long as an hour. On off times and weekends the drive is 20 minutes or less.
Do to the high traffic area of the Sunset Strip, maneuvering this area via an automobile can be tricky. During evening and weekends this stretch often becomes grid locked with party goers, visitors and locals. You will find a heavy police force along this stretch during these times as well. In addition during the evenings and weekends there is a great deal of foot traffic along the sidewalk in front of the hotel.
