Long Beach Airport is located 30 miles south of LAX in the city of Long Beach just a few miles inland from the beach. The airport is located right on the 405 freeway providing direct access to the LA and Orange County areas. It has only been in the past 10 years that Long Beach airport has risen to power as an air service option for the region. The airport traditionally has served general aviation and corporate traffic with a handful of commercial flights. Begining in 2000 Jetblue Airways established the airport as a focus city. Today Jetblue offers up to 50 flights a day from Long Beach to Boston, New York/JFK, Sacramento, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas and Washington DC to name a few. In addtion several other major carriers offer feeder service to their hubs.

After passing security there is spacious seating areas and bording of flights through outdoor air stairs. Long Beach airport holds a distinction of being somewhat cheaper to fly in and out of than LAX to the north. Long Beach Airport is extremely convienent for those staying in Long Beach proper or visiting Disneyland and Orange County.
DISADVANTAGES OF LONG BEACH
Traffic can be one of the biggest disadvantages of using Long Beach airport. Arrive Long Beach or depart any point in LA for Long Beach during the midafternoon and peak traffic periods and you are looking at up to hour and a half ride time to the airport. For those looking for an abundance of flights, Long Beach Airport is slot controlled, so the number of flight options is fairly limited, and, most of those flights are only available on Jetblue.
