Westwood is an exciting place to visit. Located in the exact center of the West LA area, Westwood is home to the UCLA campus. This section of LA is very eclectic, on one hand having a college town feel, where local pizza joints, campus bars and funky type shops delight every visitor, while on the other extreme, still managing to cater to the upper class shopping and business needs of its Bel Air, Brentwood and Beverly Hills neighbors. Westwood is home to many of LA's oldest theatres and routinely plays host to a major movie premiers in the heart of Westwood Village.
WESTWOOD VILLAGE:
The main heart of Westwood is Westwood Village. By taking Westwood Blvd. off of Wilshire, you will find easy access into the Village. Characterized by the typical California-spanish deco look, the Village has narrow streets with palm trees on either end. It is here where you will find a variety of shops and restaurants that are a tad off the beaten path. Some of the more popular venues in Westwood are Ahhhs party shop where you can get everything and anything you ever needed to plan a party-for every season. Dee Dee Reeses is a popular cookie shop where for less than $2.00 you can buy two gigantic cookies with a scoop of ice cream in the center. Maloney's bar, although more popular with the UCLA college crowd, can still be a place to run into the regular locals of the westside and enjoy the cocktails, music and and the many movies that are playing simultaneously on the walls throughout the bar.
FOX VILLAGE THEATRE
One of the landmark properties in the center of Westwood is the Fox Village Theatre. Located at the intersection of Weyburn and Broxton Avenues, the theatre is easily recognizable by its iconic 170 foot white-Spanish Revival/Modern tower. Dating back to 1931 the Fox Village Theatre is a regular home to some of Hollywood's biggest premiers. Usually held on Tuesday nights, you will know if a premier is taking place by the large crowds, bright spotlights, press, and of course the characteristic red carpet.
UCLA CAMPUS
At the far northern section of Westwood lies the sprawling UCLA campus. One of the most renown Universities in California and a reputation that extends around the world, UCLA is home to over 36,000 undergrad and graduate students. The campus sprawls over a mile in length from east to west and is bordered by Sunset Blvd to its north. The University is known for its liberal arts studies and is home to the Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
